Previous year, we decided with some friends to grow the biggest pumpkin. These were the results:


I (in the middle) won the contest with a pumpkin of 198.5kg! The one on the left went 182kg and the one on the right 85kg.

This year, I'll be much more prepared This pumpkin was only pollinated at august 14...

Previous week I received the results of my soil test:


Next week I'll add some mushroom compost to my patch.

My patch is about 8m x 7m and I've made a cheap greenhouse:


I got some seeds in mind, I really would like to plant next year Hope I will score one of them on an auction

My back-up seed (or maybe my second seed, if I find a second patch) will be the 970.5Barenie (same cross as the 1161Rodonis)

Ich erklär ganz kurz warum Dries Member der CG geworden ist und uns hoffentlich mit einem schönem Tagebuch in 2012 erfreuen wird.
Dries suchte bei BP.com nach Seeds für eine großangelegte Aktion in seiner Stadt. Aktion 2012
Kurzentschlossen schrieb ich ihm, und versprach eine gewissen Menge an Seeds,welche ich erst vor 2 Tagen,von Seedy(Christoph Schieder)gerade eben für solche Aktionen erhalten hatte.
Somit machen sich morgen 50 Seeds vom Hammer cross >>706 Schieder 11 EST (1622 Young x 1421 Stelts) per Post auf den Weg nach Belgien.Dries, viel Erfolg damit und ich hoffe das mit dieser super Aktion eine große Menge von Menschen für dieses wunderschöne Hobby begeistert werden können.

Earthworks for the winter are done (I think )

Previous year (June) I added 6m³ of compost and 1m³ of cow manure.

Now I added:

- 1.5m³ mix of compost, peat, spent mushroom compost & composted manure

- 1.5m³ pure spent mushroom compost

- app. 10kg of lime with seaweed extracts

Everything milled together:

One of these days I will receive my primairy seed: 1605Sweet10
I hope to find some place for 2 other plants. These probably will be the 970.5Barenie and the 934Schieder11 or maybe an Urena11-cross (If I can get one)

Our first weigh off was a great success!

Lot of participants, no smashed pumpkins

Here top 5:
- 1st place: Jos Ghaye - 1553lbs (704.8kg)
- 2de place: Herman Boonen - 1272lbs (577.4kg)
- 3rd place: Jonas De Swert - 1255lbs (569.6kg)
- 4rd place: Nick Gladines - 1100lbs (499.2kg)
- 5th place: Dries Van der Vennet - 1015lbs (460.8kg)

Very happy with my result! +1000lbs for a second year grower isn't bad
